Mogadishu, Somalia - In a move aimed at ensuring full compliance with Somali laws and regulations, Amal Express has announced an opening for a Regional Compliance Officer (RCO) position in Mogadishu. The RCO will be responsible for providing critical compliance services to the company’s operations in Somalia and its regional affiliates.

Responsibilities of the Regional Compliance Officer

  • Ensure that all relevant Somali laws and regulations pertaining to money service businesses are strictly adhered to, with a particular emphasis on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) rules.
  • Oversee compliance obligations in the region, including:
    • AML/CFT program requirements such as sanctioned screening, suspicious transaction reporting, transaction monitoring, reporting, knowing your employee (KYE), training regional staff, knowing your customer (KYC)
    • Ensuring continued compliance with AML/CTF laws and rules applicable to Amal’s operations
  • Provide leadership and contribute to a culture of AML/CTF compliance within the company’s operations under their control.
  • Conduct agent and employee due diligence.
  • Continuously assess compliance risks and recommend measures to address those risks.

Requirements for the Position

The successful candidate will be expected to have:

  • Strong understanding of Somali laws and regulations, as well as international AML/CTF standards and guidelines.
  • Proven experience in a similar role or in a related field, such as risk management or compliance.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
