Australia’s Banking Regulatory Bodies Stay on Top of Financial Markets with Regular Updates and Reports

The Council of Financial Regulators (CFR), a coordinating body for Australia’s main financial regulatory agencies, has released its latest statement following its quarterly meeting. The CFR also publishes a range of statements, reports, and papers from time to time, keeping the public informed about the state of the country’s financial system.

Staying Up-to-Date with Latest News

Subscribers can stay up-to-date with the latest news from the CFR by signing up for email updates. Upcoming quarterly statements will be announced on the CFR’s website a few days prior to their release.

What is the Council of Financial Regulators?

The CFR is a non-statutory group, comprising four main financial regulatory agencies:

  • The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA)
  • The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
  • The Australian Treasury
  • The Reserve Bank of Australia, which chairs the Council

While the CFR doesn’t have regulatory or policy decision-making powers, its members do - and the Council’s objectives are to promote stability in the Australian financial system and support effective and efficient regulation by those agencies.

Promoting a Competitive, Efficient, and Fair Financial System

In achieving this goal, the CFR recognizes the importance of a competitive, efficient, and fair financial system. The Reserve Bank of Australia’s semi-annual Financial Stability Review is another key publication that provides an assessment of risks to the Australian financial system.
