Azerbaijan Takes Step Towards Strengthening Whistleblower Protection Laws

In a significant move towards promoting transparency and accountability, the Azerbaijani government has taken steps to strengthen whistleblower protection laws in the country.

Workshop on Whistleblower Laws and Employee Ethics

A two-day workshop on whistleblower laws and employee ethics was held in Baku from October 22-23, bringing together key stakeholders including government officials, anti-corruption agencies, and international partners. The event, organized by the Center for Law and Democracy Promotion (CLDP), aimed to provide training and guidance on the development and implementation of effective whistleblower protection mechanisms.

Discussion Topics

The workshop included discussions on Azerbaijan’s draft law on whistleblowing, whistleblower protections, and the investigation and prosecution of cases resulting from whistleblower complaints. Participants also covered codes of conduct and ethics training for Azeri officials.

Partnerships and Coordination

The event was held in close coordination with the Anti-Corruption Directorate of the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Commission on Combating Corruption, the US Embassy in Baku, and the Department of Justice’s Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance, and Training (OPDAT).
