Fraudulent Website Posing as Financial Supervisory Authority of Aruba Warns Public to Be Cautious

Warning: Protect Yourself from Scams

The Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) has issued a public warning about a fraudulent website posing as the financial supervisory authority of the island. The fake site, www.faaruba.com, is designed to trick victims into providing personal information or making calls to suspicious numbers.

How to Identify the Fraudulent Website

The fraudulent website uses a domain name similar to that of the official Central Bank of Aruba (www.cbaruba.org) and the Aruban Financial Intelligence Unit (www.fiu-aruba.com). Be vigilant when encountering websites claiming to be from public authorities in Aruba, particularly those referring to financial stability in the United States and using wrong telephone numbers (+284 instead of +297) or visiting addresses of other institutions.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Do not enter personal information on a website unless it is confirmed as legitimate.
  • If unsure, contact the relevant public authorities directly to verify their authenticity.
  • Be cautious when receiving unsolicited emails or calls asking for personal information.

What to Do if You Have Fallen Victim to the Scam

If you have already entered personal information on the fraudulent website:

  • Contact your bank or credit card company immediately and notify them of potential fraud.
  • Change passwords for all online accounts, including email, bank, and credit card accounts.
  • Monitor bank and credit card statements for any suspicious transactions.

Report Suspect Website Activity

If you encounter a fraudulent website, report it to the relevant authorities (police or public prosecutor’s office) to help protect others from falling prey to similar scams. Stay informed and vigilant to avoid becoming a victim of fraud!
