Whistleblower Protection Laws in Macedonia Receive Boost with Amendment Legislation

In a significant development for transparency and accountability, a working group comprising representatives from the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption and the Ministry of Justice, along with experts from the Association for Economic Crime (AEC-MKD) and a Council of Europe consultant, held an online discussion on September 29, 2020, to address outstanding issues regarding the amendment of Macedonia’s whistleblower legislation.

Aligning Laws with International Standards

The meeting aimed to align Macedonia’s laws with international standards and best practices. The working group successfully reached consensus on the necessary amendments and adopted a draft version of the law on whistleblower protection. The proposed legislation will now be reviewed and debated by government authorities before its adoption.

Comprehensive Process Supported by Council of Europe/ European Union Initiative

This comprehensive process has been supported by the Action against Economic Crime in North Macedonia, an initiative funded by the Council of Europe/European Union Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey-Phase II.
