Malawi’s Financial Crime Investigators Get Boost from Basel Institute

Strengthening Internal Risk Management Systems and Driving Investigations

Lilongwe - The Basel Institute on Governance has announced an opening for a Financial Investigations and Anti-Corruption Advisor to support the Malawian government’s efforts to combat financial crime. This role is part of the Green Corruption programme, which focuses on preventing corruption in the environmental sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to strengthen internal risk management systems
  • Drive forward investigations and prosecutions related to corruption in the wildlife and forestry sectors
  • Provide training, mentoring, and case analysis support to investigators and prosecutors
  • Help build strong criminal cases that can lead to asset recovery

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in conducting financial or money laundering investigations
  • Knowledge of illegal wildlife trade or forestry-related crimes
  • Strong English presentation and writing skills
