Bulgaria Takes a Step Towards Strengthening Integrity, Transparency, and Accountability in Finance

On October 10, 2023, Sofia, Bulgaria will host a high-level forum aimed at boosting integrity, transparency, accountability, and open government through collective action and private sector engagement. The event brings together government agencies, business associations, civil society organizations, and media representatives to shape anti-corruption initiatives and promote good governance.

A Joint Initiative


The forum is a joint initiative of the Basel Institute on Governance, the Ministry of Finance of Bulgaria, the American Chamber of Commerce, the Bulgarian-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, and Transparency International Bulgaria. The event will feature keynote speeches by high-level speakers from the Bulgarian government and business sector, as well as international experts on business integrity and transparency.

Collective action is a crucial aspect of Bulgaria’s anti-corruption agenda, aiming to bring together companies and other stakeholders to increase business integrity, transparency, and fairness. This approach has been recognized by leading international organizations, such as the OECD and Transparency International, as an effective way to address systemic issues related to corporate bribery and corruption.

The event is expected to:

  • Support Bulgaria’s current commitments and anti-corruption agenda, including its 2021-2027 Anti-Corruption Strategy, the Summit for Democracy Action Agenda, and the principles of the Open Government Partnership
  • Foster collaboration and peer learning among stakeholders
  • Contribute to a more transparent, accountable, and corruption-free business environment in Bulgaria
