AML Guidelines for Small Businesses in Malawi: Presidential Directive Implementation
The Government of Malawi has issued a directive to promote local procurement and support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the implementation of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) Order 2020. The directive aims to prioritize procurement from local MSMEs and marginalized groups.

- The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) plays a crucial role in facilitating compliance through certification schemes for local products and services
Certification Process for MSMEs
- Join mandatory certification schemes
- Check for the existence of relevant standards
- Produce goods that comply with those standards
- Undergo batch certification
Requirements for Procuring Entities
- Include statements in their request for quotations or tender documents requiring goods and services to meet Malawi Standards
Government Support
- Develop and adopt standards for goods and services supplied by MSMEs
- Provide technical support and capacity building training sessions to assist these businesses in meeting relevant standards
