MCS Committed to Providing Ongoing Training on Risk Management

======================================================

The Maldives Customs Service (MCS) has made significant progress in implementing technological and institutional reforms, strengthening risk management controls, and improving operational efficiency.

Enhancing Risk Management Capabilities

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been supporting MCS’ efforts to enhance its risk management capabilities. In 2015 and 2016, the ADB financed consultants to provide onsite training for MCS risk management staff, focusing on:

  • Inspection and audit training
  • Detailed seminars on using risk management against drug trafficking and tax evasion

Developing a Risk Management Implementation Plan

In addition, the ADB assisted MCS in developing a risk management implementation plan in 2016. The plan provides time-bound actions and responsible agencies to ensure the effective implementation of risk management measures.

Improving Risk Management Ecosystem

MCS has also been working to improve its risk management ecosystem, with developments aimed at:

  • Increasing ease of doing business
  • Contributing to greater resource efficiency and national security

“We recognize the importance of ongoing training for our staff in risk management,” said a senior official from MCS. “We are committed to providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage risks and ensure the smooth operation of our customs service.”

ADB’s Support

The ADB has been a key partner in supporting MCS’ efforts, providing technical assistance and guidance throughout the process.

“We are proud to have played a role in supporting the Maldives Customs Service’ s efforts to enhance its risk management capabilities,” said an ADB official. “We believe that this will not only benefit the country but also contribute to greater regional cooperation on trade facilitation.”
