Global Anti-Corruption Efforts in Bosnia and Herzegovina Celebrated on International Anti-Corruption Day
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - December 9
On December 9, the UNODC Programme Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina joined forces with the Asset Management Agency of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AMA FBIH) to mark International Anti-Corruption Day. The event served as a platform to promote the launch of the United Nations campaign “UNCAC at 20: Uniting the World Against Corruption,” which aims to strengthen institutions globally in combating corruption.
Promoting Progress and Cooperation
Representatives from judicial and law enforcement agencies, along with European Union Delegation officials, German Development Agency (GIZ) representatives, and other international partners gathered to recognize the progress made since Bosnia and Herzegovina ratified the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in 2006. The group acknowledged the achievements of AMA FBIH in previous years, which were primarily attributed to training and capacity building programs for institutions involved in asset recovery.
Addressing Challenges and Improving Cooperation
The International Anti-Corruption Day event brought together anti-corruption bodies and practitioners to discuss the impact of UNCAC on global and local efforts against corruption, as well as identify gaps that need to be addressed. Judicial and law enforcement officials made a commitment to tackle current challenges in asset recovery and improve overall work by strengthening cooperation among governmental and judicial institutions, as well as with international partners.
Regional Anti-Corruption Efforts
The UNODC supports regional anti-corruption and asset recovery efforts under the Regional Anti-Corruption and Illicit Finance Roadmap, which is implemented with the support of the Government of the United Kingdom. This partnership aims to enhance capacity-building programs for law enforcement agencies and strengthen cooperation among institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
