Digital Identity Verification Launched in Bosnia and Herzegovina After 18 Years
==========================
Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina has finally made it possible for citizens to activate a digital identity through its website. This milestone comes nearly two decades after the law was passed.
New Opportunities for Citizens
Citizens will now be able to access various electronic services, including:
- Checking their data in registers
- Paying fines and misdemeanors online
- Verifying the status of documents
- Using digital signatures for official transactions
According to Director Almir Badnjević, citizens will undergo thorough verification before gaining access to the portal. “We have taken every precaution to ensure that our infrastructure is fully safeguarded and secure,” he emphasized.
Plans for Further Digitalization
The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers, and Data Exchange (IDDEEA) is working on implementing a digital wallet in line with European standards. This development aims to further enhance online services for citizens and should be introduced by the end of the year.
Benefits for Government Departments
Minister of Communications and Transport, Edin Forto, highlighted the benefits of electronic signatures for his department. “It will simplify administrative procedures and reduce the number of required documents,” he said.
Minister of Justice Davor Bunoza expressed hope that the digitalization process in Bosnia and Herzegovina has finally begun. He believes it requires necessary changes to laws on administrative and civil procedure, which is an essential step towards modernizing the country’s services.
