Notice of Changes to Immigration Procedures and Public Holidays in South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

The Commissioner of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Nigel James Phillips C.B.E., has issued a series of notices announcing changes to immigration procedures and public holidays in the territory.

Adaptation of Immigration Regulations

With effect from the publication of this notice in the Gazette, Regulation 7 of the Immigration Regulations 1965 will be adapted, modified, and applied to permit the Immigration Officer to accept the presence of any person seeking to enter South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands virtually, electronically, or in person at Stanley or other convenient locations in the Falkland Islands.

Appointment of Immigration Officer

The Commissioner has appointed Joshua Dulan Peck as an Immigration Officer for South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, effective from November 26, 2021. The appointment will continue until the completion of the appointee’s contract of employment with the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

Appointment of Registrar

The Commissioner has appointed Joshua Dulan Peck as a Registrar for the purpose of the Marriage Ordinance 1949, effective from November 26, 2021. The appointment will continue while the appointee holds office as a Government Officer, unless terminated sooner.

Public Holidays for 2022

The Commissioner has announced the public holidays for South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands in 2022:

  • January 1: New Year’s Day
  • April 15: Good Friday
  • April 18: Easter Monday
  • May 2-3: Early May Bank Holiday
  • August 29: Late Summer Bank Holiday
  • October 31: South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands’ Independence Day

Appropriation (2022) Ordinance

The Commissioner has enacted the Appropriation (2022) Ordinance, which authorizes withdrawals from South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands funds for use during 2022. The total amount to be withdrawn is £7,770,600.

These notices have been published in the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands Gazette and are available for public inspection at the Attorney General’s Chambers in Stanley, Falkland Islands.
