Expert Chinese Team Bolsters Solomon Islands’ Fight against Economic Crime

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is set to enhance its economic crime investigation capabilities through a four-day training session with the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT), commencing on May 1, 2023.

Training Objectives

The training aims to upskill RSIPF’s knowledge in economic crime investigation, focusing on topics such as:

  • Introduction to the current economic situation in China
  • Economic crime investigation methods
  • Evidence gathering
  • Investigating contract fraud, counterfeiting currency, and money laundering

Official Launch

Yesterday, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence Ms. Patricia Leta officially launched the training at Rove Police Headquarters.

Key Remarks

In her opening remarks, AC Leta emphasized the importance of continuous learning and the privilege of working with CPLT expertise:

“This training is an essential tool for upskilling our knowledge in economic crime investigation,” she said. “I believe this training will be productive, and I urge participants to share their experiences and ask questions.”

She also highlighted the urgency of addressing economic crimes, particularly white-collar crimes involving dishonesty practices that can cause significant financial losses.

CPLT’s Commitment

Deputy Team Leader of CPLT, Mr. Xu, expressed his team’s dedication to maintaining close cooperation with RSIPF in combating economic crime:

“Economic crimes, such as money laundering and contract fraud, have become increasingly prevalent issues in national development,” he said. “These crimes can threaten social stability and even endanger national security, particularly when they involve the public.”

Mr. Xu also affirmed CPLT’s commitment to a successful training that would strengthen the bilateral relationship.

Expertise

The economic crime investigation is being led by Officer Zheng Xiaoren, who boasts over a decade of experience in frontline economic crime investigation in the People’s Republic of China.
