Coaches and Providers Work Together to Improve Early Intervention Services
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Early Intervention (EI) program has announced a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening family protective factors and improving services for young children with disabilities. The program’s implementation plan, updated in December 2023, outlines several key activities designed to promote continuous quality improvement and enhance child, family, and provider levels of confidence and competence.
Key Initiatives
- Implementing the Strengthening Family Protective Factors Framework
- Providing training for providers on continuous quality improvement processes
- Expanding the battery of assessment tools, including:
- ELL Child Profile Tool
- ELL Family Survey
- CASE Tools (Observation)
- Strengthening family protective factors through initiatives such as:
- Café strategies
- Using the Strengthening Families Framework
Training and Support
EI administrators, providers, and families will receive ongoing training on the implementation and monitoring of a continuous quality improvement process to support program improvement. This training will help ensure that all stakeholders have the knowledge and skills necessary to implement a CQI process and monitor progress.
Assessment Tools
The EI program plans to expand its battery of assessment tools, which will provide valuable insights into child development and help identify areas where additional support may be needed.
Strengthening Family Protective Factors
The EI program is committed to strengthening family protective factors through various initiatives, including providing opportunities for parents to use café strategies and in using the Strengthening Families Framework. This framework aims to promote a supportive environment that helps families build strong relationships and develop resilience.
