Uganda Steps Up Financial Crime Investigation Procedures to Combat Environmental Degradation
Combating Environmental Crimes through Strengthened Financial Investigations
Kampala - In a bid to combat environmental degradation and illegal wildlife trade, Uganda is strengthening its financial crime investigation procedures with the support of the Basel Institute on Governance. The Green Corruption Programme, an initiative by the Basel Institute, has identified corruption and weak governance as key enablers of environmental crimes such as:
- Illegal wildlife trade
- Fishing
- Logging
- Mining
Disrupting Environmental Crimes through Financial Investigations
The programme aims to disrupt these illegal activities by tracing illicit financial flows and confiscating the proceeds of crime. To achieve this, the Basel Institute is seeking a Financial Investigator to join its team in Kampala.
