Mitsui Chemicals Group Reaffirms Commitment to Regulatory Compliance
A Key Driver of Business Success
TOKYO - Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals Group has reaffirmed its commitment to regulatory compliance, highlighting its importance as a key driver of business success.
Thorough Education and Awareness Initiatives
To achieve this goal, the company has identified compliance with all laws and regulations as the first item in its Action Guidelines. Mitsui Chemicals believes that thorough education of its employees is crucial for effective compliance management and will implement educational measures throughout the group to raise awareness and promote knowledge.
Compliance Guidebook and Training Programs
The company’s Compliance Guidebook, published in 2006, sets out the importance of compliance and provides guidance on basic points that employees should consider when carrying out their duties. The guidebook has been revised several times to reflect changes in laws and regulations, and now includes information on anti-social forces, corporate and personal information management, and other critical issues.
In addition, Mitsui Chemicals has published a separate guidebook on antitrust laws and bribery prevention for the Asia-Pacific region, with Chinese translations available. The company has also organized workplace discussions covering case studies of violations of laws and regulations since fiscal 2008.
Stratified Training Programs
To further enhance compliance awareness, Mitsui Chemicals has introduced stratified training programs tailored to individual employees’ positions within the company. From new recruits to directors and corporate auditors, each employee receives targeted education and training to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities in promoting compliance.
E-Learning and Group Sessions
The company also provides legal and regulatory compliance training via e-learning and group sessions, covering specific laws and internal rules that employees need to be aware of. Participation in these initiatives is audited by the Internal Control Division to ensure employee knowledge and understanding.
Overseas Compliance Training Programs
In addition, Mitsui Chemicals has organized overseas compliance training programs for local subsidiaries and affiliates, including handbooks on competition law, bribery prevention, and personal information management. Lawyers are regularly engaged to provide training sessions on specific topics.
Fostering a Culture of Compliance
By investing in regulatory compliance training and awareness initiatives, Mitsui Chemicals aims to foster a culture of compliance throughout the group and promote a more open and transparent corporate environment.
