Mongolia Embraces Compliance Policies: A Unique Experience for Global Professionals

By Adam Turteltaub, Corporate Compliance Institute

In a surprising turn of events, compliance professionals from around the world converged on Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to discuss the importance of effective compliance policies. The country’s banking sector and various industries have recognized the value of compliance in participating in the global economy.

A Valuable Experience

I had the privilege of speaking at two conferences during my week-long stay in Mongolia - one with the assistance of the US Embassy for The Business Council of Mongolia, which was well-received by attendees eager to learn more about compliance programs. It was exhilarating to see that our humble profession now spans the globe, and we are valued enough to have local communities able to support conferences.

SCCE’s Global Presence

The Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) has a significant presence in Mongolia, with two graduates from their Basic Compliance and Ethics Academies in attendance, both holding the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional-International (CCEP-I) designation. This is a testament to the growing need for compliance professionals worldwide.

Expanding Global Reach

The SCCE has announced plans to expand its global reach with upcoming academies in Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Chile, and Bangkok, Thailand, among other locations. With 2019 already seeing regional meetings in these cities, it’s clear that the demand for compliance training is on the rise.

A Changing Landscape

As compliance professionals continue to spread across the globe, we can expect to see more conferences like this one become commonplace. Instead of being an unusual occurrence, a picture of a compliance conference in Mongolia will soon blend in with those taken in major cities worldwide.

  • Conferences like this one will become more common as compliance professionals continue to spread globally.
