Compliance Officer Role and Responsibilities in Slovakia: An Insider’s Perspective
As a Compliance Officer, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a field that is still relatively unknown to many Slovaks. In fact, I didn’t know much about what the term meant until 2010 myself. My background was in controlling and logistics, so when the offer came to join the Compliance department, I was initially hesitant. However, I soon discovered that this work not only broadened my horizons of knowledge but also presented opportunities for creative problem-solving.
Challenges in Bringing Compliance to Attention
One of the biggest challenges I faced early on was bringing Compliance to the attention of our employees. Many people view rules and regulations as dull and uninteresting, which made it difficult to motivate them to read and understand our internal guidelines. To address this issue, I organized a Compliance Quiz for our staff during the holiday season. Each day, employees received a question related to our internal regulations or intranet content, with the correct answer revealed the following day. The quiz was a huge success, engaging our company in a fun and interactive way.
