ZIMBABWE: Compliance Officer Role and Responsibilities Take Center Stage

Key Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this position is to monitor legal and corporate compliance, providing recommendations for enhanced compliance in various areas. The duties and responsibilities of the compliance officer are multifaceted, including:
- Internal Compliance:
- Coordinating and conducting internal investigations into compliance issues
- Conducting internal reviews and audits to ensure staff adherence to compliance procedures
- Identifying, assessing, and managing risks
- Providing legal advice and ensuring compliance with legal and statutory requirements
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensuring the company stays current with regulatory compliance requirements from authorities such as EMA, NSSA, CGU, ZIMRA, etc.
- Maintaining a comprehensive database of all compliance issues with up-to-date progress
- Liaising with other departments to manage regulatory compliance matters
- Maintaining a database of government circulars, policy directives, and advisory notes requiring compliance
- Statutory Compliance:
- Ensuring that all company activities, products, policies, and documentation comply with national legislation
- Reporting to management on risk, compliance, and legislative matters
- Keeping record management systems up-to-date
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this role, applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or B.Comm Business Law degree from a recognized university
- A minimum of 2 years post-admission experience in a busy legal department/environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work independently
