Key Responsibilities
The Statutory & Compliance Officer is responsible for administering statutory functions and implementing and administering Compliance Management for Lesana Lesotho Limited. Some of the key deliverables of this role include:
- Arranging meetings of directors and shareholders
- Preparing and filing annual returns
- Submitting regulatory filings
- Attending and minuting executive and management meetings
- Providing bank administration support
- Reviewing and monitoring internal practices and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Analyzing new or proposed rules that may impact the business
Collaboration and Liaison
The Compliance Officer will work closely with:
- Group Compliance Officers, performing compliance planning, developing policies and procedures, and collaborating with operations teams as needed.
- Regulators, reviewing regulatory interactions, managing on-site inspections, and providing input to the establishment of controls to mitigate risks.
Additional Responsibilities
In addition, the officer will be responsible for:
- Conducting anti-money laundering (AML) assessments, monitoring, screening, reporting, and ensuring that processes and systems meet company policies and procedures as well as regulatory requirements.
- Scheduling and conducting compliance audits and reviews in cooperation with the Internal Audit team.
Requirements
The ideal candidate for this role should have:
- A relevant undergraduate qualification, preferably a BA LLB or similar degree
- A Compliance Officer’s Examination will be advantageous
- Three years of relevant experience within the financial services industry
- Familiarity with and knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements in Africa being advantageous

- Ability to handle multiple tasks within strict time frames
- Self-starter who shows initiative and assumes responsibility for projects

Remuneration
The position is based in Lesotho’s Maseru office and offers an annual cost-to-company remuneration package commensurate with the technical skills and experience of the successful candidate.
