Compliance Officer Responsibilities in Turkey: A Growing Need for Effective Regulatory Compliance

Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) / Global Financial Crimes Compliance (GFCC) Role
One critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance is that of the Deputy MLRO/GFCC. This individual will support the Country Compliance Officer and MLRO on a range of tasks, including:
- Acting as Registered Assistant MLRO for the JPMorgan Istanbul Branch: Providing expertise and guidance to ensure adherence to Turkish AML Law and Regulations.
- Preparing and Updating Local AML Program, Policies and Procedures: Developing and maintaining policies and procedures that align with Turkish regulations and guidelines.
- Supporting Local Business and Regional GFCC Teams on CDD Inquiries and EDD for Foreign Correspondent Banks: Assisting in customer due diligence (CDD) inquiries and enhanced due diligence (EDD) for foreign correspondent banks.
Compliance Officer Role
Another important role is that of the Compliance Officer. This individual will provide proactive advice to business management in the development of policies and procedures, designed to achieve and ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting a Strong Compliance Culture Throughout Offices: Encouraging a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
- Maintaining Regulatory Relationship for the Istanbul Office: Building and maintaining relationships with regulatory bodies.
- Conducting Regular Reviews to Verify Policies and Procedures Conform with Latest Regulations: Ensuring that policies and procedures are up-to-date and compliant.
Qualifications and Requirements
To succeed in these roles, candidates must have a strong understanding of Turkish regulatory requirements, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, along with 5+ years of Anti-Money Laundering and Compliance experience. Capital Markets Board Level 3 and internationally recognized Anti-Money Laundering / Counter Finance Terrorism certificates are a plus.
