Compliance Officer Job Description in Botswana

The Bank of Botswana is seeking a highly skilled Compliance Officer to join its team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the bank’s compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Financing of Terrorism (CFT) and Prevention of Financial (PF) regulations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities


As a key strategic partner to management, the Compliance Officer will be responsible for identifying money laundering risks faced by the business, suggesting relevant internal controls and policies, monitoring their implementation, ensuring compliance with applicable AML/CFT/PF requirements, and advising on risk management whenever necessary. Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and Implementing AML Policies: Developing effective AML policies, procedures, initiatives, and programs to achieve strategic goals.
  • Monitoring Regulatory Requirements: Monitoring and reviewing regulatory and legislative requirements applicable to the bank and their impact.
  • Designing Anti-Money Laundering Systems: Designing and operating anti-money laundering systems effectively.
  • High-Risk Product Monitoring: Monitoring high-risk products, services, and business relationships with the company, including regular risk assessments.
  • Statutory Reporting: Ensuring timely submission of statutory reports to management and regulators in line with AML and CFT control legislation and directives.

Minimum Qualifications


To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Finance, Risk Management, LLB, or other relevant qualification.
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS): A Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification.
  • Membership in a Recognized Body: Membership in a recognized AML/CFT/PF or Compliance body is an added advantage.

Required Experience


The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of post-qualification experience in the AML/CFT/PF or Compliance field or investigations in a banking or financial services setup. They should also have good knowledge of the goAML portal and AML Systems, as well as knowledge of AML Compliance standards and legislation.

The successful candidate will possess leadership skills, be assertive, have strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, and excellent planning and organizing skills.
