Gaborone, Botswana - A leading financial institution is seeking a highly skilled Compliance Officer

A leading financial institution in Botswana is looking for an experienced and qualified Compliance Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the bank’s compliance with regulatory requirements and managing compliance risk.

Key Responsibilities

The Compliance Officer will be responsible for:

  • Liaising with regulatory bodies such as the Bank of Botswana, National Pension Fund Regulatory Authority, Financial Intelligence Agency, and Data Protection Commissioner to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Identifying and assessing applicable regulatory requirements that the bank is required to comply with, and prioritizing risks using a risk matrix.
  • Promoting a compliance culture throughout the bank and workshop business units to categorize and assess regulatory requirements.
  • Applying Generally Accepted Compliance Practice as developed by the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa when monitoring and advising on regulatory universe and embedding the compliance process.
  • Researching regulatory requirements in relation to own environment, business, and determining practical implications.
  • Monitoring and reviewing current practices, identifying misunderstandings, areas of concern or non-conformance, and developing/support implementing action plans and review progress against objectives.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, the successful candidate must have:

  • A degree in Law (LLB), Business Administration, or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience, with 3 years in compliance risk management and/or the financial services industry.
  • Certification in a professional association such as the Association of Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) will be an added advantage.
