Compliance Officer Job Description and Responsibilities in Belize

The Belize Tax Service (BTS) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Compliance Officer. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and implementing Audit and Investigations, Filing and Payment Compliance programs/projects aimed at improving revenue collections and voluntary filing and payment compliance.

Job Summary

The primary purpose of this role is to support the Belize Tax Service in developing and monitoring compliance programs to ensure effective tax collection and compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and Implementing Payments Compliance Programs and Projects:
    • Developing and implementing payments compliance programs and projects to improve revenue collections and voluntary filing and payment compliance.
  • Analyzing Market Segments:
    • Analyzing market segments to identify and develop programs/projects relating to all categories of taxpayers.
  • Monitoring and Evaluating Program Implementation:
    • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of programs in district offices and LTO to ensure effectiveness and achievement of objectives.
  • Conducting Research and Analysis:
    • Conducting research and analysis to guide program development and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Preparing Analytical Reports:
    • Preparing analytical reports for submission to the Divisional Deputy Director General.
  • Developing Performance Indicators:
    • Developing performance indicators to measure audit and investigation program effectiveness.

Reporting Responsibility

The Compliance Officer will report directly to the Deputy Director General, Policy and Programs.

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Management Studies or equivalent qualification.
  • Have at least three years of related work experience.
  • Possess excellent planning, organizing, and analytical skills.
  • Be certified in Internal Auditor (CIA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Salary

The salary range for this position is $34,296 - $62,416 per annum.
