Responsibilities
The Compliance Specialist will be responsible for:
- Reviewing environmental impact assessment reports to determine the environmental effects of proposed and existing development projects and land uses.
- Collecting, analyzing data, and performing studies to assess Palau’s natural resources.
- Assisting with the review and development of plans and policies to effectively protect Palau’s terrestrial, marine, and coastal resources.
- Preparing reports of findings and making presentations to the public and other government officials and agencies.
- Consulting with and providing support to EQPB staff regarding administration and issuance of permits for erosion and sedimentation control, toilet facilities, solid waste disposal, wastewater discharges, public water supply systems, and pesticides.
- Coordinating with other EQPB staff and conducting accurate field observation reports of periodic, routine, and special inspections of proposed and permitted project sites to monitor compliance with environmental laws, regulations, orders, and permit conditions.
- Testifying in court and making presentations at public meetings and Board hearings regarding projects, permits, violations, and other Board-related matters.
- Recommending appropriate corrective actions and assisting Legal Counsel with enforcement actions to remedy permit non-compliance and regulatory violations.
Minimum Qualifications and Other Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree: From an accredited University or College
- Work Experience: At least five (5) years of related work experience in the environmental field
- Skills:
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with Palau’s environmental regulations and policies
