Council of Europe Boosts Ukraine’s Financial Crimes Agency with Technology Solutions

In an effort to modernize and enhance the capabilities of the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine (FIU) to combat financial crimes, international experts from the Council of Europe provided valuable insights and technologies during a two-day online workshop.

Modernizing the FIU: Insights from Council of Europe Experts

During the workshop, Council of Europe experts imparted their knowledge to Ukrainian counterparts from the FIU. They provided advice on:

  • Applicable technologies
  • Distinct IT solutions

The initial day of the workshop covered key technological concepts, their advantages, disadvantages, and best practices. An in-depth analysis of how these technologies could be integrated into the FIU’s operations was emphasized.

Transforming Operations with IT Solutions

On the second day of the workshop, a series of specific IT solutions were outlined to address the FIU’s unique requirements. These proposed solutions aimed to facilitate the FIU’s entire operational cycle, from data collection to case referrals to law enforcement agencies.

Collaboration and Modernization: A Path to Improved Capacities

The collaboration between the FIU and the Council of Europe is expected to culminate in the integration of advanced technology solutions. This modernization will significantly improve the agency’s capacities to counteract financial crimes.

Partnership for Good Governance

The present event is part of the European Union and Council of Europe’s “Partnership for Good Governance” program. It is co-financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and led by the Council of Europe. The project “Enhancing anti-money laundering, counter terrorist financing and asset recovery regime in Ukraine” facilitates the implementation of this collaboration.
