Turkmenistan Takes Aim at Cybersecurity with National Competition

Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Justice has published regulations for a national cybersecurity competition aimed at improving professional skills in the field of information security. This initiative is part of the country’s State Cybersecurity Program for 2020-2025, approved by President Decree.

Enhancing Human Resources and Expertise

The joint effort between the Ministry of Education and Turkmensvyaz Agency aims to develop the human resources potential of the IT industry and enhance cybersecurity expertise among representatives from:

  • Ministries and departments
  • Military personnel
  • Law enforcement officers
  • Employees of institutions subordinate to them

Competition Structure and Objectives

The competition will feature three stages:

Interdepartmental Stage

  • Taking place between April to October each year
  • Competitors will be tasked with eliminating malware, detecting web vulnerabilities, and tackling other pressing cybersecurity issues

Judges’ Criteria

  • For each problem solved correctly, a panel of judges will award points
  • The ultimate goal is to identify the most skilled professionals in the field and provide them with opportunities for further development and recognition

Expected Outcomes

The competition is expected to play a crucial role in building a stronger, more resilient cybersecurity landscape in Turkmenistan. By identifying and recognizing top talent in the field, this initiative aims to:
