Law No. 6,534/20: Protection of Personal Credit Data

This law establishes the regime for the protection of credit information data and regulates the collection and access to credit information about individuals and legal entities.

  • Protection of personal data: The law aims to preserve fundamental rights such as privacy, informational self-determination, freedom, security, and fair treatment of individuals.

Credit Information Services

Only Credit Information Bureaus authorized by the Superintendency of Commercial and Financial Entities (SEDECO) can provide credit reference services. These bureaus can only process credit information related to an individual’s or entity’s economic solvency and credit, obtained from public sources or provided with consent.

A bill is currently under discussion in Paraguay to regulate the treatment and use of personal data, including biometric, genetic, sensitive, and personal data. This bill aims to provide comprehensive protection for individuals’ rights and regulate the free circulation of personal data.
