Cocos (Keeling) Islands Corporate Business Plan 2020/21 - 2023/24: Delivering for Our Community

The Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands has released its corporate business plan, outlining the council’s vision and strategies for delivering essential services to the community over the next four years.

Recreation and Culture

• The plan prioritizes the provision and maintenance of recreation and cultural facilities, including:
  • Public libraries
  • Community festivals
  • Public reserves
  • Museums
  • Other significant sites
• The Shire will continue to administer and operate these facilities to ensure the community has access to a wide range of activities and events.

Transport

• The council is committed to constructing and maintaining all streets and roads within the shire to a high standard, including:
  • Building and maintaining local roads
  • Street signage
  • Transport facilities
• This will ensure safe and efficient travel for residents and visitors.

Economic Services

• The Shire will regulate and promote economic development, tourism, area promotion, and building control, including:
  • Building and planning approvals
  • Controls on building standards
  • Assistance in tourism promotion
  • Development of tourism facilities
• This will support the growth and development of the local economy.

Other Property and Services

• The council will ensure that all Council plant and equipment is in good working order, including:
  • Plant operations
  • Private works
  • Insurance administration
  • Lease management

Service Levels

• The plan proposes maintaining existing service levels for all operational areas while aiming to improve these services in the long term.
• The Shire aims to achieve annual operating surpluses each year to fund the provision of infrastructure.
