Credit Card Fraud Warning Issued for Travelers to Dominican Republic
A scam targeting unsuspecting tourists has been uncovered in the Dominican Republic, with con artists posing as legitimate companies offering electronic ticket services for a hefty fee. According to reports, scammers are charging credit card holders $79.00 for E-tickets, when in fact, the online filing and form submission are completely free.
Warning from Authorities
The Dominican authorities have issued a stark warning to travelers to be on high alert for this fraudulent activity. To avoid falling victim to this scam, tourists are advised to use only the official website provided by the government: https://eticket.migracion.gob.do/.
E-Ticket Requirements
The E-ticket is a mandatory requirement for all passengers, whether Dominican or foreign, entering or leaving the country. Each entry and exit requires a new E-ticket, which must be completed online and generated with a QR-code. This code must then be presented at the airport on a digital device.
Tips for Filling Out the E-Ticket
- For families traveling together, only one form needs to be filled out, listing the details of all family members.
- It is essential that each passenger provides truthful information on the electronic ticket for the General Immigration Office, the General Customs Office, and the Ministry of Public Health, as per Dominican laws 285-04, 115-17, 72-02, and 226-06.
Protecting Yourself from Credit Card Fraud
Travelers are urged to exercise extreme caution when dealing with online services related to travel documentation in the Dominican Republic, and to always verify the authenticity of websites and transactions to avoid falling prey to credit card fraud.
