Regulatory Bodies Gear Up to Combat Financial Crime in Armenia
The European Union and the Council of Europe have launched a joint project aimed at strengthening Armenia’s capacity to prevent and combat economic crime. The initiative, part of the third phase of the Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) program, is designed to support the country’s efforts to counter corruption, money laundering, and financial crime.
Building on Previous Achievements
The new project builds on previous achievements under PGG II, which focused on strengthening institutional capacities to fight and prevent corruption in Armenia. The project seeks to further improve the legislative and institutional framework against economic crime by introducing new mechanisms and awareness-raising campaigns.
Key Objectives
- Enhance the capabilities of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering bodies
- Introduce new tools to combat corruption and money laundering
- Raise awareness among citizens, civil society, and other stakeholders about integrity and transparency
Support from International Partners
“We are committed to supporting Armenia in its efforts to combat financial crime and promote good governance,” said Mr. Evgeni Evgeniev, Head of Unit for Eastern and Southeastern Europe at the Council of Europe. “This project is a crucial step towards ensuring that the country’s institutions are equipped to prevent and investigate economic crimes effectively.”
Broader Partnership with Armenia
The project is part of a broader partnership between the European Union and Armenia to support the country’s development and strengthen its institutions. It reflects the EU’s commitment to promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in partner countries.
