Fiji’s Consumer Council Commits to Anti-Bribery Goals

The Consumer Council of Fiji (CCoF) has joined forces with a nationwide campaign to combat corruption and bribery. The “I don’t accept bribes” initiative is a joint effort between the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the New Zealand Government.

Campaign Launch Ceremony

On August 31st, the CCoF headquarters in Suva played host to the campaign launch ceremony. The event was attended by the Council’s Management and staff, UNDP Anti-Corruption Advisor Dr. Sonja Stefanovska-Trajnoska, and representatives from FICAC.

Importance of Ethical Practices

In her address, Chief Executive Officer Ms Seema Shandil emphasized the importance of ethical and transparent practices in creating a fair marketplace for all consumers in Fiji. “As consumer champions and advocates, we must strongly advocate against bribery,” she said. “Only then can we realize our vision of creating a just and fair marketplace for all consumers in Fiji.”

Fighting Bribery and Corruption

Ms Wainimala, Senior Corruption Prevention Officer at FICAC, highlighted the significance of fighting bribery and corruption. “By knowing how to prevent and fight corruption, you not only avoid tarnishing your reputation but also your organization’s,” she emphasized.

Praise for CCoF’s Commitment

Dr. Stefanovska-Trajnoska praised the CCoF for its pivotal role in promoting fair and just delivery of goods and services. By committing to anti-bribery policies, the Council is strengthening its reputation and enhancing its practical ability to make the consumer voice heard.
