Fiji’s Consumer Council Joins Nationwide Campaign Against Bribery and Corruption

The Consumer Council of Fiji (CCoF) has joined the “I Don’t Accept Bribes” campaign, a joint nationwide initiative aimed at combating bribery and corruption in Fiji. The campaign was launched on August 31, 2022, with CCoF management and staff, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Anti-Corruption Advisor Dr. Sonja Stefanovska-Trajanoska, and representatives from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

The anti-bribery campaign is a collaborative effort between FICAC, UNDP, and the New Zealand Government under the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption (UN-PRAC) project. CCoF Chief Executive Officer Ms. Seema Shandil emphasized that while the council has its own policies and procedures in place to ensure ethical and transparent work practices, it is committed to being part of the campaign against bribery. She assured that the council will continue to maintain a bribe-free system and reminded staff that as consumer champions, they should advocate strongly against bribery.

Senior Corruption Prevention Officer Mrs. Banuve Wainimala stressed the importance of fighting corruption and emphasized that the only immunity is one’s integrity. She encouraged individuals to know how to prevent and fight corruption by opting not to accept bribes, thereby avoiding tarnishing their reputation and organization.

UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji Anti-Corruption Adviser Dr. Sonja Stefanovska-Trjanoska highlighted the crucial role CCoF plays in promoting fair and just delivery of goods and services in Fiji.
