Joining Forces to Combat Corruption
In a significant move, Fiji’s peak investment agency, Investment Fiji, has pledged to join forces with the nation-wide anti-bribery campaign, “I Don’t Accept Bribes”, aimed at combating corruption and promoting transparency. The initiative is a joint effort by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption (UN-PRAC) project funded by the New Zealand Government.
Launch of the Campaign
The launch of the campaign, held on April 13, 2022, marked a significant milestone in Fiji’s fight against corruption. Speaking at the event, Acting Chief Executive Officer Kamal Chetty emphasized Investment Fiji’s commitment to professionalism and transparency, stating that the agency has always remained committed to developing a sustainable nation by stimulating investment and exports.
Anti-Bribery Measures
Chetty highlighted the importance of anti-bribery measures in protecting the organization from corruption-related risks, particularly during the transition phase towards becoming a fully-pledged Investment Promotion Agency. He noted that widespread corruption can deter investment, weaken economic growth, and undermine the rule of law.
Critical Role of Investment Fiji
FICAC’s Manager Corruption Prevention, Kolora Celua, emphasized the critical role Investment Fiji plays in engaging with foreign investors and exporters, and the need for the agency to maintain its integrity as an independent and transparent investment promotion agency. Celua stressed that by working against corruption, Investment Fiji will make a measurable difference for the nation and Fijian businesses.

UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji Anti-Corruption Adviser, Sonja Stefanovska-Trajanoska, underscored the importance of combating bribery and corruption to achieve economic growth and national prosperity. She noted that the “I Don’t Accept Bribes” badges are a significant symbol of Investment Fiji’s commitment to integrity and its determination to deliver a more prosperous and fairer future for everyone in Fiji.
