Fiji Takes a Stand Against Corruption with Anti-Bribery Campaign

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has launched an anti-bribery campaign in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aimed at promoting integrity and transparency across the country.

“I Don’t Accept Bribes” Campaign

The campaign, which kicked off on April 13th, is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 16, which calls for countries to improve their governance systems and fight corruption. The goal is to create a culture of integrity among public officials and private sector entities, thereby promoting transparency and accountability in all business dealings.

Importance of Maintaining Integrity

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Investment Fiji, Kamal Chetty, emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity as an investment promotion agency, particularly when engaging with foreign investors and exporters. He stated that Investment Fiji has always maintained high ethical standards and sees this campaign as an opportunity for employees to be trained on anti-bribery measures.

Role of Investment Fiji

FICAC’s Manager Corruption Prevention, Mrs. Kolora Celua, highlighted that Investment Fiji has a critical role to play in promoting transparency and combating corruption. She stressed that bribery and corruption can deter investment, weaken economic growth, and undermine the rule of law.

Commitment to Integrity

Sonja Stefanovska-Trajanoska, UNDP Anti-Corruption Adviser, reiterated that if Fiji is to achieve sustainable development and promote national prosperity, corruption must be eradicated from all aspects of business dealings. The “I Don’t Accept Bribes” badges are a symbol of Investment Fiji’s commitment to integrity and its determination to deliver a more prosperous future for Fijians.

Support from UNDP

The campaign is supported by UNDP under the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption (UN-PRAC) project, funded by the New Zealand Government. The initiative aims to promote a culture of integrity across sectors, with the ultimate goal of creating a corruption-free society.
