Fiji’s Investment Promotion Agency Joins Fight Against Bribery and Corruption

============================================================

Fiji’s peak investment agency, Investment Fiji, has joined the “I Don’t Accept Bribes” campaign, a nationwide initiative launched by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Campaign Aims

The campaign aims to promote anti-bribery and integrity efforts across the nation. It was officially launched on April 13, 2022, at a ceremony attended by executives from Investment Fiji, FICAC officials, and representatives from UNDP.

Importance of Integrity

Investment Fiji’s Acting CEO, Kamal Chetty, emphasized the agency’s commitment to transparency and professionalism in its role as a leading investment promotion agency. “Our ethical standards reflect our values, and we recognize the importance of anti-bribery measures in protecting our organization from corruption-related risks,” he said.

FICAC’s Role

FICAC’s Manager Corruption Prevention, Kolora Celua, highlighted Investment Fiji’s critical role in engaging with foreign investors and exporters, stressing the need for integrity and transparency in its operations. “As Fiji’s peak investment agency, Investment Fiji must maintain its independence and integrity to ensure a level playing field for all stakeholders,” she said.

UNDP’s Support

UNDP Anti-Corruption Adviser, Sonja Stefanovska-Trajanoska, underscored the significance of the campaign, stating that bribery and corruption can undermine economic growth, deter investment, and weaken the rule of law. “If Fiji is to continue growing its economy and creating skilled jobs for young people, bribery and corruption cannot be tolerated in any form,” she emphasized.

Campaign Support

The “I Don’t Accept Bribes” campaign is supported by UNDP under the United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption (UN-PRAC) project, funded by the New Zealand Government. The initiative aims to promote a culture of integrity and anti-corruption among public statutory organizations, businesses, and individuals in Fiji.

Investment Fiji’s Commitment

With Investment Fiji’s commitment to join the fight against corruption, the agency is poised to make a meaningful difference for the nation and Fijian businesses by executing its core roles and responsibilities based on the values of integrity and anti-corruption.
