The Role of Financial Intelligence Agencies in Botswana

Botswana has established the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) to strengthen its efforts against money laundering, financing of terrorism, and related crimes. The FIA plays a crucial role in requesting, receiving, analyzing, and disseminating financial information to relevant authorities.

Ministry of Finance and Economic Development

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED) is responsible for various aspects of Botswana’s economy, including treasury and budget administration, economic management, national development planning coordination, financial administration and management, and more. The MFED is divided into several departments, including:

  • Economic and Financial Policy Department: Responsible for improving the welfare of Batswana through the formulation and coordination of national economic and financial policies.
