Financial Investigation Training for Financial Professionals in Fiji

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is set to host a comprehensive Financial Investigation Training (FIT) workshop from May 2-7, 2022, aimed at enhancing the skills of financial professionals in investigating financial crimes.

Objectives

The training aims to provide an in-depth overview of financial investigation processes and activities, as well as the legal framework surrounding criminal offences linked to financial crimes. Participants will gain knowledge on:

  • Ethics and professional standards
  • Types and understanding of relevant offences
  • Conduct of investigations
  • Planning, search and seizure
  • Evidence and exhibit management
  • Analysis of documents and evidence
  • Witness statements
  • Arrest procedures
  • Court attendance
  • Investigation reporting

Target Audience

The FIT workshop is designed for financial professionals who require training in criminal investigations, including those working in:

  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Regulatory bodies
  • Private sector institutions

The training will be conducted by experienced instructors with expertise in financial investigations.

Training Schedule

The six-day training program will cover the following topics:

Day 1: Introduction to Financial Investigation

  • Introduction to financial investigation
  • Ethics and professional standards
  • Types and understanding of relevant offences
  • Conduct of investigations

Day 2: Planning and Evidence Management

  • Planning an investigation
  • Search and seizure process
  • Evidence and exhibit management

Day 3: Analysis and Witness Statements

  • Analysis of documents
  • Analysis of evidence
  • Witness statements

Day 4: Arrest, Care, and Custody

  • Recording of witness statements
  • Arrest procedures
  • Care and custody of suspect (Bill of Rights)

Day 5: Interview, Interrogation, and Court Attendance

  • Interview and interrogation skills
  • Court attendance
  • Procedures and presentation of evidence in court

Day 6: Investigation Report and Evaluation

  • Investigation report
  • Group discussion
  • Closing presentation of certificates and evaluation

Course Fee and Registration

The course fee is FJD $1,050, which includes:

  • Course materials
  • Meals
  • Refreshments for the duration of the training

A non-refundable application fee of FJD $50 and a course fee of FJD $1,000 per participant is payable upon registration.
