Canada’s Financial Literacy Organizations Unite to Promote Education and Protection

Ottawa - The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) has announced the formation of a working group focused on Indigenous financial literacy initiatives, as well as the appointment of members to its Research Committee on Financial Literacy.
New Initiatives
- A working group was formed to focus on sharing information about existing financial literacy initiatives, establishing collaborative partnerships for new projects, and identifying gaps that could be addressed through research.
- The working group includes representatives from Indigenous organizations and experts in the field.
- FCAC’s Research Committee on Financial Literacy has been tasked with advising the agency on the implementation of the National Financial Literacy Strategy.
Interdepartmental Committee on Financial Literacy
FCAC chairs the Interdepartmental Committee on Financial Literacy, which brings together representatives from federal government departments and agencies with an interest in financial literacy. The committee’s role is to:
- Contribute to the implementation of the National Financial Literacy Strategy
- Facilitate information sharing
- Identify gaps and opportunities for collaboration
- Engage stakeholders in research and discussion
Financial Literacy Networks
FCAC engages with financial literacy networks representing hundreds of organizations across Canada, including:
- Local initiatives such as the Alberta Financial Empowerment Collaborative
- The Financial Education Network in Saint John, New Brunswick
International Collaboration
FCAC is a respected member of international forums that influence regulatory and policy development and financial literacy efforts. These organizations include:
- International Financial Consumer Protection Organisation (FinCoNet)
- G20-OECD Task Force on Financial Consumer Protection
- OECD International Network on Financial Education
These organizations promote sound market conduct, strong consumer protection, and effective financial literacy initiatives, enabling FCAC to stay abreast of international developments and work together with global counterparts on common areas of interest.
