Guatemala Seeks Experts in Forensic Accounting to Boost Anti-Crime Efforts

In a bid to strengthen its fight against crime and corruption, Guatemala is seeking experts in forensic accounting to provide training and technical advice to its law enforcement agencies.

About the CARSI Program

The Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI) is one of the largest and most sophisticated multi-lateral security efforts in the world. The US government provides funding to assist the governments of participating countries, including Guatemala, with various initiatives aimed at professionalizing their police forces, reforming their justice systems, combating drug trafficking, and preventing crime.

Job Requirements

Forensic accounting experts will be required to provide training on topics such as:

  • Forensic audit techniques in criminal investigations
  • How to interpret financial information
  • Objectives of forensic audits
  • And more

They will also need to advise prosecutors, analysts, judges, and investigators on how to collect and analyze financial data relevant to ongoing cases.

Key Responsibilities

The selected consultant will work closely with Guatemalan legal and law enforcement professionals, providing:

  • On-the-job advising and direct consultation as needed
  • Training and technical advice on forensic accounting

Requirements

To qualify for the position, applicants must have:

  • At least 10 years’ experience working on financial forensic investigations or money laundering cases
  • A university degree in accounting
  • A minimum of five years’ experience training justice sector officials
  • Superior interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to conduct training and technical advice

Location and Contract Details

The position is based in Guatemala City, with frequent travel required. The contract will not exceed 40 hours per week, and all reports and deliverables must be submitted to the INL-G Rule of Law and Justice Sector Reform Program Manager on a weekly basis.
