Gambia Seeks Council of Europe’s Help in Drafting National Privacy and Data Protection Policy

The government of The Gambia has reached out to the Council of Europe for guidance in creating a national privacy and data protection policy that meets international standards. To achieve this goal, a workshop was organized with stakeholders, featuring expert input from two renowned professionals.

Workshop Launched to Develop Comprehensive Draft Policy

On May 6, a consultation meeting was held at the launch of a five-day drafting workshop aimed at developing a comprehensive draft privacy and data protection policy. The event was inaugurated by Ebrima Sillah, Minister for Information & Communication Infrastructure.

Expert Guidance

The Data Protection Unit has enlisted the support of Patricia Poku, Executive Director of the Ghanaian Data Protection Commission, and Pat Walshe, Director of Privacy Matters. This expert team will facilitate a meaningful exchange of views among stakeholders and help craft a policy that effectively safeguards personal data in The Gambia’s financial sector.
