GIABA Engages Togolese Media in Battle Against Financial Crimes

GIABA, the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa, is set to convene a two-day event in Lomé, Togo from March 20-21, 2024.

Objective: Raising Awareness and Generating Support

The primary aim of this meeting is:

  1. To harness the media’s influence in raising awareness on Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) issues.
  2. To forge alliances for improved dissemination of information.
  3. To enhance media officials’ awareness on economic and financial crimes.
  4. To educate the public about the destructive consequences of money laundering and terrorism financing.

Media: A Powerful Ally in the Fight

The media plays a crucial role in:

  1. Advocating for good governance.
  2. Combating economic and financial crimes on the local, regional, and international stages.

Journalists Gather for Insight

A total of 25 journalists will participate in a dedicated workshop:

  1. Learning about the pivotal role that media can play in combating economic and financial crimes.
  2. Equipped to share critical information with their audience.

Advocacy Visit to Media Outlets

The Director-General of GIABA will visit five leading media outlets for advocacy talks:

  1. Reinforcing their commitment to the fight against economic and financial crimes.
  2. Urging their continued involvement.
