Guyana Takes Step Against Financial Crime with Asset Recovery Training for Judicial Officers
The Guyanese government has launched an asset recovery training program for judicial officers to enhance their capacity in combating money laundering and terrorist financing crimes.
Enhancing Capacity against Financial Crimes
The training, held at the Duke Lodge in Kingston, Georgetown, will equip judges with the skills to identify, investigate, and prosecute financial crimes. The Chancellor of the Judiciary (ag), Yonette Cummings, emphasized the importance of this training, noting that Guyana’s rapid economic growth requires judicial officers to learn how to comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) obligations and prevent money laundering.
Collaboration and Holistic Approach
The training is being conducted in collaboration with local government agencies and the Financial Investigation of the Regional Security System (RSS) Asset Recovery Unit (ARU). Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, described the training as a “holistic approach” to preparing Guyana’s judicial officers to meet modern changes and obligations at an international and regional level.
