Fighting Financial Corruption in Key Government Ministries
Baghdad - In an effort to combat the scourge of financial corruption in Iraq, the Federal Commission of Integrity has launched a comprehensive public awareness campaign targeting key government ministries, including Education, Interior (homeland security), and Oil and Gas.
Goal of the Campaign
According to Judge Hidar Hanoun, head of the commission, the initiative aims to encourage Iraqi citizens to report financial corruption crimes committed by officials in these ministries. The campaign is part of the commission’s efforts to combat corruption, which has long been a major obstacle to Iraq’s economic development.
Key Components of the Campaign
Hotline for Reporting Corruption
A new hotline has been established for citizens to report incidents of financial and administrative corruption.
Investigative Units
Special investigative units have been set up in each Iraqi province to probe such crimes.
Reward for Whistleblowers
Individuals who provide vital information leading to the arrest and conviction of corrupt officials will receive a financial reward under Law No. 33 of 2008 on rewarding whistleblowers.

Stiff Criminal Penalties for Corruption-Related Crimes

- Embezzlement of Public Funds: imprisonment
- Abuse of Power: imprisonment
- Breaching the Duties of Public Service: imprisonment or a fine
- Illicit Gains: up to 10 years in prison
- Damaging Public Funds: up to three years in prison or a fine
