Iraqi Individuals Caught in Financial Crimes Net: Commission Launches Campaign to Fight Corruption

New Hotline Established and Investigative Units Set Up

As part of the campaign, a new hotline has been established for receiving tips about financial and administrative corruption crimes. Additionally, specialized investigative units have been set up in each province to investigate corruption cases.

Financial Rewards Offered for Tips Leading to Arrests and Convictions

The commission is offering financial rewards to individuals who provide vital information that leads to the arrest and conviction of perpetrators. According to Law No. 33 of 2008, any person who provides such information will receive a reward under certain conditions.

Types of Crimes Targeted

The campaign focuses on crimes such as:

  • Bribery
  • Embezzlement of public funds
  • Damage to public funds
  • Abuse of power
  • Breach of public service duties

These crimes are punishable by law, and citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or cases.

Penalties for Corruption Crimes Imposed

Iraq’s Penal Code, Law No. 111 of 1969, imposes severe penalties on individuals found guilty of corruption crimes. These include:

  • Imprisonment for bribery, embezzlement, abuse of power, and breach of public service duties
  • Illicit gains can also lead to a term of up to 10 years in prison
