Iraq Takes Major Step in Combating Financial Crimes with Launch of Financial Investigations Handbook

Baghdad, Iraq - In a significant move towards strengthening its financial regulations, Iraq has launched a comprehensive Financial Investigations Handbook aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of financial investigations across the country.

A Collaborative Effort

The handbook is a collaborative effort between eleven Iraqi institutions from both the federal and Kurdistan regions. It provides step-by-step procedures for conducting financial investigations, legal requirements, and technical guidance related to international requests for evidence and assistance.

Enhancing Financial Integrity

“This handbook is a critical asset in our pursuit of accountability and the establishment of a robust financial system,” said His Excellency Dr. Faeq Zaidan, Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Council. “It will empower law enforcement agencies, auditors, and legal professionals to uncover hidden financial trails, expose corrupt practices, and ensure justice is served.”

Support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The handbook was developed with the support of the UNDP in Iraq, funded by the United States Government. The UNDP’s Security Sector Reform and Rule of Law Programme aims to support the Iraqi government’s efforts towards long-term peace and stability through an improved security and justice sector.
