UN Report Highlights Israel’s Role in Perpetuating Palestinian Suffering
Serious International War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Committed by Israeli Security Forces
A United Nations report released today accused Israeli security forces of committing serious international war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territory. The report also highlighted the devastating impact of Israel’s occupation on the living conditions of Palestinians, including widespread poverty, unemployment, and lack of access to basic services such as water and healthcare.
Devastating Impact of Occupation on Palestinians
The report by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) found that Israeli policies have displaced thousands of Palestinians from Area C and East Jerusalem, with many more at risk due to demolition orders affecting over 13,000 Palestinian-owned structures. The report also noted that Israel’s blockade on Gaza has reached a critical humanitarian crisis point, with nearly half of the population in need of aid or protection.
Condemnation by Countries
The report was met with strong condemnation by several countries, including the Group of 77 developing countries and China, which called for immediate action to end Israel’s illegal occupation and for international support to help Palestinians achieve their right to self-determination and development.
Urgent Action Needed
“The situation on the ground is dire,” said Abdullah Abu Shawesh, observer for the State of Palestine. “Israel’s policies are designed to maintain its control over our land and resources, and to suppress our rights and freedoms.”
The report also highlighted the devastating impact of Israel’s occupation on Palestinian children, with over 100,000 suffering from diseases in Gaza and thousands more subjected to detention and mistreatment by Israeli authorities.
Holding Israel Accountable
“The international community must take immediate action to hold Israel accountable for its actions,” said Ahmed Bin Saif Al-Kuwari, speaking on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. “The situation is grave and requires urgent intervention to protect justice and ensure accountability.”
Tarek Ladeb, speaking on behalf of the Group of Arab States, echoed these sentiments, calling for international support and solidarity in holding Israel accountable for its violations of human rights and international law.
Widespread Outrage
The report’s findings have been met with widespread outrage among Palestinians and human rights groups, who have long called for an end to Israel’s occupation and for international action to protect Palestinian rights.
