According to the latest report from the CRIF Cyber Observatory, Italy ranks 6th in the world in terms of online theft of email and password exchanges. This alarming trend has seen a significant increase globally, with 47.1% of total cases involving compromised account credentials.

The data reveals that entertainment sites, particularly online gaming and dating platforms, are the most vulnerable to personal data theft, accounting for 48.6% of total cases. This is followed by:

  • Forum and website accounts (22.9%)
  • Streaming services (15.5%)
  • Social media accounts (11.4%)
  • Financial services (1.33%)

Demographics of Affected Users

The report also highlights that men are the majority of alerted users in Italy, making up 63.8% of cases. The most affected age group is between 41-50 years old, with 26.4% of total cases.

Regionally, the Center of Italy is the area with the highest number of people alerted, followed by:

  • South
  • Northwest
  • Northeast
  • Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, and Perugia are among the most affected provinces
