SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS REGULATORS WARN PUBLIC ABOUT JOB SEARCH SCAMS
Growing Trend of Job Search Scams in Saint Kitts and Nevis
The Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC), the White Collar Crime Unit (WCCU) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) are sounding the alarm about a growing trend of job search scams targeting individuals in the Federation.
How Scammers Operate
These scams, often found on social media platforms and websites, promise unusually high wages for minimal tasks or jobs such as typing, preparing correspondence or data entry. Victims are lured into providing their personal information, including banking details, to “employers” who communicate only through direct messages and never engage in verbal or face-to-face communication.
Red Flags of Job Search Scams
Be cautious of these scams and watch out for the following red flags:
- Payment for services via wire transfers and mobile transactions
- Instructing victims to withdraw money immediately after transfer into their account
- Requesting personal information before sending official confirmation of employment
- Lack of company website, social media page or physical address
- Phishing emails requiring access to unauthorized links
Consequences of Job Search Scams
Any funds derived from these scams are considered money laundering and could result in penalties outlined in the Proceeds of Crime Act.
