Jordan Removed from High-Risk Countries List After Efforts to Combat Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing

The Kingdom of Jordan has made significant strides in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, earning its removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) list of high-risk countries. This achievement comes after nearly three years of technical assistance provided by the EU Global Facility on Anti-Money Laundering/Campaign Financing (AML/CFT).

AML/CFT Framework Improvement

From November 2020 to October 2023, the EU Global Facility supported Jordan through a range of activities, including:

  • 45 online and onsite sessions that reached over 1,090 participants from various institutions
  • Four regional activities co-organized with local authorities and other partners

Notably, Jordan was the first country where the EU Global Facility resumed its onsite activities following the COVID-19 pandemic. It also conducted its first cross-functional activity between law enforcement and justice/civil society organizations.

Removal from FATF List

The removal of Jordan from the FATF list is a testament to the country’s commitment to combating financial crimes and improving its AML/CFT framework. The EU Global Facility has warmly congratulated the Kingdom on this achievement and will continue to provide technical assistance to help Jordan maintain its progress in this area.

This achievement demonstrates Jordan’s dedication to tackling money laundering and terrorist financing, and we look forward to continuing our support for the country in this important area.
